Book Review: The Passion Principles By Shannon Ethridge

Passion Principle

The Passion Principles: Celebrating Sexual Freedom in Marriage by Shannon Ethridge is a good resource for couples looking to strengthen their bonds of marriage, to improve their sexual relationship, or to help other couples talk through  issues. There are four passion principles that are discussed, the spiritual side of sex, the mental side of sex, the emotional side of sex and the physical side of sex. The author doesn’t shy away from any topic and even touches on topics that many would think are controversial.

Some of the questions this book aims to answer are:

What was God thinking when He created sex?
Why do humans think about sex so much?
Will there be sex in heaven?
How did we get such different ideas about sex and love?
How can I get past his or her sexual past?
How can I help my spouse heal from the sexual abuses he or she suffered?
What if my heart is telling me I married the wrong person?
How can we balance mismatched sex drives?

While I don’t agree with everything that is written in this book, I do believe that each couple that reads this will find things that can help them in their relationship. The author acknowledges that there will be some controversial topics in the novel and she will most likely offend people at some point. Overall I liked the book and would recommend it as a read for couples.
